Football Coaches Information

First of all, there is absolutely no experience playing or coaching football to help out. Because of our extensive training modules, AYFC will ensure you have all the tools to succeed. Also, there is no gender requirement to coach. We encourage anyone remotely interested in coaching to contact us or one of coaches for more information.

Our program starts with great volunteer coaches. AYFC strives to provide our boys and girls with outstanding role-models, organized managers, and highly competent teachers. To this end, our football coaches attend year-round training beginning with our monthly coaches round table as well as complete USA Football’s Youth Heads Up Football Certification and our own coaches’ Heads Up Validation Clinic. AYFC Coaches also may take advantage of Hudl’s Youth Football Coach’s scholarship to attend the National GlazierFootball clinic every spring.

AYFC Coaches must complete the following prior to the first day of practice in order to participate:

1.       Create a profile on http://www.aflva.com/ and register to be a coach. If you are unsure of the level you would like to coach at please select one at random and you will be matched by the AYFC Board.

2.       You will need to complete a background check if you are a first time coach OR it has been more than a year since your last check. If you are unsure, attempt the check and it will deny you access if your latest check is still active.

     -  Go to www.ncsisafe.com, click on "START YOUR BACKGROUND SCREENING NOW".
     -  STEP 1: Enter Self-Registration Number: 55517481
     -  STEP 2: Enter your information as requested
     -  STEP 3: Provide Legal Authorization and Certification

It is important when entering your name, that you use your full legal name as written on your current ID (state driver's license, passport or state ID with name and DOB). Please also verify that your social security number was typed correctly. Using nicknames or failing to type a correct social security number may delay or invalidate your background check.

Once you have submitted your information you will receive a confirmation page with a 16-digit Applicant ID Number. The background check generally takes 10 business days to complete and you may check your status on our website under the "CHECK YOUR BACKGROUND SCREENING STATUS" link at www.ncsisafe.com.

NCSI will contact you directly if there are any questions, problems or issues related to your specific information. An email address is required when completing the background check as our contact with you will largely be electronic. Please be sure to add ncsisafe.com to your list of acceptable domains in your email program to receive notifications from us.

3.       Register to coach with AYFC with Fairfax County Youth Football League. Click this link
http://fcyfl.org/Registration/Default.asp?org=FCYFL.ORG to complete your registration and sign the “Code of Conduct”. We have not yet assigned coaches to teams so you make your best guess for the weight limit you’re interested in coaching and we can adjust it later.

4.       You must complete the USA Football coaching certification. If you are a returning coach, please sign in and complete the “Re-Certification”. If you are a new coach, please create a profile on USA Football and click “Get Certified”. Choose the “Youth Football” certification and designate your organization as “Arlington Youth Football Club”. Complete the certification and email Austin when you are done.

We understand this can be a time consuming process but the sooner you start, the sooner it’s over. Please get these done as soon as possible and let Austin Perry know if you run into any issues.

Head and Assistant Coaches receive a refund of their child’s registration fee for attending Club and League events outside of practices and games. These events include but are not limited to the FCYFL weigh-in, equipment distribution and turn-in, Club Field Monitor and other coaching and player training events.

Except in unusual circumstances, coaches who are in their first year with the league are usually not Head Coaches.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

AYFC is always on the lookout for other parents or friends who can lend a hand. Besides the myriad of tasks that need to be supervised and executed to run a large organization like this we are always grateful for anyone who can assist a coach as a team mom or share your professional expertise to help our enterprise. Let a board member know if you think you can help!
